This one is a more obscure variant of 7-Card Stud, in which 9s act wild.
The interesting thing about No 9 is, that any two cards which can be added up to 9, can be wild.
The two cards will not be used separately once they’re added up, but the player is not obliged to use them as wild, he can use them separately, at his discretion.
In this hand: 8s, 9c, 9h, Ad, 5s, you can either go for a pair of nines with A kicker, or – if you know what’s good for you - you add up the 8s and Ad (which counts as 1) for a 9 and thus show down a set.
You won’t be allowed to add up three cards though, or more. In some No 9 variants, the 9s themselves won’t count as wild-cards, only the 9s obtained by adding up two other cards.
